Social Innovation and Leadership Program, Spring 2017
Originally from Tokyo, Mio is majoring in Informative Communication at Meiji University.
Mio wants to be part of a community whose vision for the future is not bound by the past. She believes too much value is placed on superficial attachment and it is essential to create real connections with people and communities. While it is important to develop and maintain relationships formed in universities and workplaces, Mio thinks it is equally important to expand one’s horizon and meet people outside these two places. She hopes to understand how to create better connections and form more meaningful relationships and bring that knowledge back to Japan.
Mio also wants to grow more as a person. She wants to cultivate her skills and abilities so that she can offer something to the world that is completely her and no one else. Mio’s past experience working as an intern at U.S. Embassy and Wikia Japan has taught her the importance of being authentic and your true self in a work environment that can be very competitive. Mio is joining the program with the hope of getting the opportunity to learn more about who she is so that she can learn how to work better with other people.
Through the TOMODACHI-Microsoft iLEAP Social Innovation and Leadership Program, Mio wants to gain better experience working in a team and meeting fellow participants who are equally committed to bringing about social change in the world.
