Satsuki’s Story

Originally from Iwate, Satsuki is majoring in Pharmacy at Tohoku medical and pharmaceutical University

Satuski is fascinated by the leap mankind has made towards attempting to perfect Artificial Intelligence. She believes if technology is managed properly, then it can not only have positive influence on our daily lives but truly revolutionize human capacity. Being in the medical field, Satuski was able to quickly see the importance technology plays in providing care, especially during a time of disaster. At the time of Great East Japan Earthquake, Satuski was still in Junior high and was unable to fully grasp what was happening around her. However, looking back she is now certain that she would have liked to provide medical support for everyone affected by the disaster if she was in a similar situation again.

Satsuki is currently in a 6 year Medical degree program and while the road may be long and challenging, she knows it will be worth it in the end. One of the things that she would like to change in the medical school system is the lack of opportunities there is to gain experience abroad. Having been exposed to international cultures from a young age, Satsuki feels it is important to have a different perspective and be open minded to new ideas. She feels that cross cultural learning is equally important in a field like Medicine and she hopes to expand her knowledge base as she seeks more opportunities abroad.

Through the TOMODACHI-Microsoft iLEAP Social Innovation and Leadership Program, Satsuki is looking forward to learning more about social innovation and her own leadership style.
