Tom currently serves as the National Director for Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) in Bolivia, the newest home in the NPH system. He believes that children are at the heart of his work, and is working to develop opportunities that provide more vocational training for youth. This stems from a community service mindset, as Tom recognizes a university education is not always for everyone. Furthermore, he notes that “a practical education triggers creativity, is positive for their self-esteem and gives children the possibility to serve the community with their skills.”
One component that Tom is currently working on is establishing both fundraising here in the US, as well as in Bolivia, emphasizing the importance of local donors due to their proximity to the NPH home.
Tom notes that, in Bolivia, there are few institutions which care for abandoned children or orphans with intellectual disabilities and that many organizations have good intentions but are in need of better leadership. He looks forward to continuing to grow his own leadership skills in order to better serve children throughout the country.
