Social Innovation and Leadership Program, Spring 2017
Originally from Yamagata, Yuto is majoring in Business Administration at Waseda University
Yuto is an advocate for quality and accessible education for all. He first noticed the gap between urban and rural education when he finished high school and went to university in Tokyo. Being exposed to students from all over Japan, Yuto came to the realization that the education he received in his hometown, Yamagata, was both insufficient and didn’t provide much possibilities for the students in thinking about their future. This realization led him and his fellow classmates to start a student organization called “SYP Yamagata”, which serves the purpose of giving current high school students of Yamagata the opportunity to think about their future and career. Yuto has been doing this by providing career counseling and inviting university graduates to meet with the students so that the students will get to learn more about their experience.
Yuto is also very passionate about working within his community and creating social impact. He wants to focus on building leadership skills of the young generation in the rural areas. His dream is to revitalize his hometown province by supporting the youth and giving them a means to generate new and innovative ideas.
Through the TOMODACHI-Microsoft iLEAP Social Innovation and Leadership Program, Yuto wants to deepen his knowledge on leadership and learn how to engage more effectively with local and youth in his community.
