Dear Miyuki san. Ogenki desu ka?
I m gani silaban, i m coffee farmer from North sumatra- Indonesia. glad to read your article about fairtrade. My former organization run fairtrade coffee from 2005-2010. we have lots market in your country such Tullys Coffee, Aeon Supermarket, Ryohin Keikaku, Unicafe, etc. I got lots experiences in running fairtrade system at the time. with many advantages. but in 2011, we loss our certification due to coffee crisis trat make our coop has collapse and now i established new organization and started to strengthening my small organization again. what i experienced about fair trade was very good in expanding market, farmers get chances to contact costumers directly and also got fair price, but farmers pushed to have education in order to follow all standard of fairtade. generally speaking i like fairtade but fairtade must improve their system so that small farmers can do all the system without lots expenses. thank you for concerning about farmers life. i share much about fairtrade to many japanese students like you for many years. i m looking to get contact with you in the future. This year i m trying to apply as Ileap Participat hoping very much they willing to accept me, so that i can share my experiences. thank you for your kind attention

Sincerely

Madeline,

I'm so happy that you took a moment to post your thoughts about the beneficial impact of the iLEAP Fellowship. I'm so impressed with how beautifully you articulated what you found most meaningful.

It's very gratifying to know that iLEAP has had a profound impact not only with your leadership development but giving you the time and space to re-charge your drive and capacity to bring lasting change to your community.

In gratitude,

Francis

ARMY WORM ATTACK ON MAIZE CROP
Two weeks ago Zambia experienced a severe attack on young maize plants that were at least knee high and below, many fields were wiped out living bear ground. Maize being our staple food , this was taken as emergency case. Government provided chemicals to spray and also seeds to the farmers for free. However , even if farmers have replanted the general crop yield will be very poor due to late planting. This to me means that food security is somehow affected. As a college we shall we are not spared at all in terms of food to feed students, this is gona be a big challenge.

The Japanese Grass root funded project for the construction and rehabilitation of Farm machinery workshop for academic and social services is completed, handed over and money retired. The college now has a new look and work moving well. This has added value and excellent standard to the college, we give thanks to the Japanese Government for the grant. The building will be guarded jealously and utilized for the intended purpose.

Such a great story Sunita! Thanks for sharing this. I love how you’ve articulated the often tenuous existence between humans and the non human world. Wild animals are not out to make our lives miserable or threaten our safety, they are just being and as you’ve illustrated we can learn to co-exist in peace.
