One of the fun things about living here at Chipembi Farm College is sometimes I get surprised by the flora and fauna that I see. The other day, I was walking back to Paul’s place, and a bunch of goats appeared out of nowhere and crossed in front of me. Turns out they were being driven somewhere else on the farm by their goat herder.

Goats crossing my path
A couple of weeks ago, it was a column of black army ants. These half-inch long insects appeared to be carrying food to their colony. I could actually hear a faint crackling sound as they crossed in front of me.

When I got closer to take the second photo (below), some of these aggressive little fellows broke off from the column and started moving towards me.

I love African ants! They claim such a more dominant role in the ecosystem than we are used to!
(And I love African goats, too, nicely roasted, and served by the kilogram with a cold, cold beer.)
Whoa!! Great description, Michael! Keep’em coming!!!
