A rather special moment for Chipembi College of Agriculture to gain prestige and connections through our American friends has come.

Michael Kraft at Chipembi College of Agriculture, Zambia

Little is known about us by our friends but Mr. Micheal Kraft is our icon who has taken his precious time to put Chipembi College of Agriculture on the website so that our activities, aspirations and bilateral understanding is made known to all our beloved friends. This inspires growth and on the other hand a reflection in the way we hope to develop our Institution to something really big by a considerable margin.

To receive a donation was a celebration, knowing that our American friends worked very hard to help us meet the shortfall our crop.  The background issue is that the crop produce for 2009/2010 season has dropped sharply due to too much rain. We experienced too much rainfall which was unfavorable for the maize, sunflower, cow peas, groundnuts and some of the vegetables. The season begun well, but there was a dry spell for about one month followed by heavy rains.

Locals Delivering Maize

A total of 161 x 50kg bags of maize were bought within the local community.  From each 50kg bag, the maize is ground into 45kg of maize meal which is used to prepare nshima. This 45kg feeds 165 students per meal of nshima. Therefore the 161 bags will be ground into 7245 kg translating into 80.5 meals, which will be used for about 2.6 months.

The management, staff and students of Chipembi College of Agriculture are very grateful for these donations and wish all the best.

To Chipembi College of agriculture –
I am a representative of a mission organisation in Norway called Nordic Harvest Mission. In december I will be visiting our partner mission located not far from Chipembi. This mission is called Redemption Harvest Churches. We´re planning to help them build a solar powered watering system to increase their harvest. Would it be possible for us to come and visit you and get some ideas on how to do this and also get input on effective farming in general for your region? Do you have a phone number to make an appointment?
