Haruka was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She started her studies at Waseda University, but it was after a study-abroad experience at University of Washington that her life trajectory began to change. She was so impressed with the people, environment and culture that it led her to transfer to University of Washington Bothell, where she graduated with a degree in Media and Communications. Through this experience she came to better understand many of the underlying issues that shaped human rights, sustainability, and she came to see the importance and need for a more innovative approach to social change, leadership and intercultural communication. Haruka joins iLEAP with the hope of contributing to the creation of a society that values both people and the environment, and to connecting Japan with the world. In her free time she enjoys cooking, baking, creating videos, and playing badminton and chess.
