Global Leadership 101

Course Description: Global Leadership 101 (GL101) is the foundational course (6 modules) in the GLA curriculum and covers topics of personal leadership, social leadership, leadership styles, values, reflective practice, sustainable development goals, and more.

Overview

  • Length: 4 weekends
  • 6 synchronous modules (1.5 to 3 hrs each)
    • Modules 1 & 2: Saturday & Sunday

Personal Leadership

Course Description: Personal Leadership covers, in greater depth, leadership styles, global and social leadership, and personal leadership refinement and exploration. Participants further develop their core leadership skills in self-awareness, agility/adaptability, global mindset, empathy, and discernment. At the end of the course, participants have a completed Personal Leadership Plan to propel them into a more aligned future. Prerequisite: Global Leadership 101.

  • Focus: Creating a Personal Leadership Plan (PLP) that brings clarity to each participant’s unique approach to leading others.
  • 2 synchronous modules (2 hrs each)
    • Modules 1 & 2: Saturday & Sunday
    • Modules 3 & 4: Saturday & Sunday
    • Module 5: Saturday or Sunday
    • Module 6: Saturday or Sunday
    • Modules 7 & 8: Saturday & Sunday
    • Modules 9 & 10: Saturday & Sunday

Social Leadership

Course Description: Social Leadership course focuses on the design, development and implementation of projects that focus on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Western Washington University

English for Transformational Leadership (ETL)

Course Description: The course English for Transformational Leadership offered by Western Washington University’s Language & Culture Programs is designed to strengthen students’ leadership-specific English proficiency skills before taking the Global Leadership 101 course. WWU supports the Global Leadership Academy course offered by iLEAP.

This course will be taught by WWU faculty in LCP. Students in the English for Transformational Leadership course will learn and participate in online, synchronous courses as well as complete offline homework assignments. Students will learn crucial English vocabulary regarding leadership, and students will create a presentation that they will deliver during the final online class meeting. Students will develop their reading, listening, speaking and writing skills through on- and offline coursework. Students will have the option to meet individually online with the instructor at least once and the curriculum assistant at least once, in order to answer student questions or work on details of English grammar points. Students will receive a certificate upon completion of this course.

  • Length: 3 weekends  (Will be completed before your Global Leadership 101 class begins)
  • 5 synchronous sessions (1 to 2.5 hrs each)

  • Optional 10-15 min, 1 on 1s with teacher

  • Class size: up to 16 total, in working groups of 4 or fewer
  • Led by Western Washington University, Language and Culture Program faculty
  • Tuition: $299
  • Prerequisite: None
  • Recommended for participants with Low Intermediate to Intermediate English proficiency
