Course Description: The course English for Transformational Leadership offered by Western Washington University’s Language & Culture Programs is designed to strengthen students’ leadership-specific English proficiency skills before taking the Global Leadership 101 course. Western Washington University (WWU) supports the Global Leadership Academy course offered by iLEAP.

This course will be taught by WWU faculty in Language & Culture Programs. Students in the English for Transformational Leadership course will learn and participate in online, synchronous courses as well as complete offline homework assignments. Students will learn crucial English vocabulary regarding leadership, and students will create a presentation that they will deliver during the final online class meeting. Students will develop their reading, listening, speaking and writing skills through on- and offline coursework. Students will have the option to meet individually online with the instructor at least once and the curriculum assistant at least once, in order to answer student questions or work on details of English grammar points. Students will receive a certificate upon completion of this course.


  • Length: 3 weekends  (Will be completed before your Global Leadership 101 class begins)
  • 5 synchronous sessions (1 to 2.5 hrs each)
    • Sessions 1 & 2: Saturday & Sunday
    • Sessions 3 & 4: Saturday & Sunday
    • Session   5: Saturday
  • Synchronous sessions on Zoom
  • Asynchronous sessions on Sutra
  • Optional 10-15 min, 1 on 1s with teacher
  • Optional 10-15 min, 1 on 1s with staff
  • Led by Western Washington University, Language and Culture Program faculty
  • Prerequisite: None
  • Recommended for participants with Low Intermediate to Intermediate English proficiency
